About The Gate
The Gate is a not-for-profit initiative that aims to host, showcase and support great independent live music in a region of Sydney that doesnʼt really see much of it: the broad spread of the North Shore through to the Western Suburbs.
Sydney has a lot of bands buried in the suburbs, and yet not a lot of music venues exist in them. Weʼre hoping that our efforts will help change that, and foster a creative community that is excited about seeing music happen in new places - especially as music seems to get increasingly driven out of the inner city and inner suburbs thanks to rising expenses and increasingly difficult restrictions.
The Gate began life as a regular event held in a Ryde backyard. After six successful shows and a rapidly growing following, we decided to shift The Gate's focus towards being more than just a single event, but a host and enabler of a broad variety of musical initiatives. It's our hope that music will gain a profile in the many communities represented in this broad spread of Sydney and encourage new, amazing creative pursuits to emerge.
